CDL Passenger Transport (P Endorsement) Practice Exam

The purpose of a seatbelt on passenger vehicles is primarily to secure passengers and reduce the risk of injury during an accident. Seatbelts are designed to restrain the occupants of a vehicle, keeping them secured in their seats. This is crucial because, in the event of a collision, seatbelts help prevent passengers from being thrown from their seats, which can lead to severe injuries or fatalities. By holding individuals in place, seatbelts also minimize the risk of harmful movements that could occur during impact, thereby decreasing the likelihood of injury to the torso and head.

While keeping passengers in their seats during quick stops and maintaining comfort are benefits of seatbelts, they do not encompass the main life-saving purpose of the restraint system. Similarly, preventing theft of personal belongings is not a function of seatbelts; this is a completely different concern unrelated to the safety provided by seatbelts.
